The Big Read

The Spartanburg Herald-Journal announced the Libraries' The Big Read program this morning. With financial support from the Libraries, the Spartanburg County Foundation, The National Endowment for the Arts, the Kellogg Foundation, the Celebrate Community Foundation, and the Friends of the Libraries, this $91,500 county-wide reading program, with the help of over 40 partners, will span 6 weeks (September 30 - November 10). Innovation from the Library of Congress

"The Library of Congress’s Preservation Doctorate and a number of partners are essentially “inventing” a new preservation technology that could revolutionize efforts to convert analog formats, such as LPs, to digitized versions of the recordings contained on the old media".

Music on Hayne

The Woodruff Community Center and the Woodruff Library will host Music on Hayne in the new reading park adjacent to the Library. The event will take place Thursday, June 21 at 5:30pm. Music is by Hideaway and food is provided by Johnny Skinner’s Chicken. The forecast for Thursday is sunny with a high of 88 (weather). Come and enjoy!

Infinity

On Friday evening about 100 people visited the Westside Library to watch as Daniel Cromer unveiled "Infinity". A year in development, "Infinity", explores life with and without books. Cromer, a Spartanburg native, and internationally recognized artist grew up next door to the property of the present Westside Library. The painting is about 5x6 feet and uses an integrated lighting system. The progression of Cromer's work was on display in the community room.
