First Post

This is the first posting for the new Spartanburg County Public Libraries' blog. This blog has been in discussion for some time, and today, Saturday, October 21, 2006 at about 8:15am we begin a new avenue of service. What would Helen think

I am excited to see this new service. I think it is a wonderful way to stay in touch with patrons. It also gives patrons another way to communicate with the library, and the community about the library, other than a suggestion box or letter.

Other readers might wonder, "Who is Helen?" I had to dig through my library history to find her full name, Helen Fayssoux Kennedy. Her gift of the lot where her husband's office once stood is where the first Spartanburg Library was opened in 1885.

This is my first time posting to a blog. This is fun.

I'm with Carole,

I would love to link this up to our website. I think it would be great for you to have this to communicate with the public on a regular basis, even if it is only once a month or so. You could share what's happening at the library, changes in policies, a "did you know" section where interesting reference questions and answers can be posted - keeping the patrons anonymous of course, or you could simply post "Todd factoids" that we are all so familiar with.

We could have it link to a separate blog for posting book reviews both by staff and the public, or highlighting special events like Jamboread! The possibilities are endless really...

Oh and as a side note, view our full Library history.

Let me know what I can do.

I have enjoyed the blog. I really think it should go public. I would love to see book discussion element added to the blog.

I agree with Jennifer. My first thought was "wow, this would be great to link from Infodepot."
